This came up in the research for next week's article on the most recent meeting regarding 911 funding. At Tuesday's Public Safety Commission meeting (held after press deadline for this week's issue) a copy of a letter was distributed, dated Jan. 26, 2000, which was used to justify the 911 Center not being located at the Van Buren County jail.

The letter was sent to then county judge Dale Lynch by then 911 coordinator David Britton, we are told.

We have been told, and are working to confirm, that the room on the back of the current jail admin/dispatch center was built to house 911 operations, but not put into service. It is currently used as the "Deputy's Room" at the Sheriff's office.
