Meet the candidates for state and local office at a candidates forum April 5 at the Alread EHC on Highway 16, 1 mile west of the Alread School. Everyone is welcome. Damascus Chapter 515, Order of the Eastern Star, will serve breakfast from 7-9 a.m. Saturday, April 5, in the Doric Lodge 471 F&AM located on Highway 65 and 285 West in Damascus. The menu includes scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, sausage gravy, coffee and juice. All donations help support charities. Everyone is welcome.

The AARP is offering a classroom refresher course for drivers age 50 and older. The class will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 10, 2014, at Simmons First national Bank Community Room. First Baptist Church of Damascus is having a Kids Fest from 1-4 p.m. April 12 for kids in sixth grade and below. Parents must accompany children. Inflatable obstacle course and rock climb slide, games and refreshments.
The Alread community will have an activity day on Saturday, April 12, starting with an Easter Egg Hunt and children’s games at the Alread FUN Park from 4:30-6:15 p.m. All kids are welcome; they just need to bring a basket to collect eggs. The Egg Hunt will be followed by a talent show at 6:30 p.m in the old Alread School Gym, sponsored by the Alread Community Resource Development Corp. There will be an Umbrella Painting workshop at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the Dirty Farmers Community Market in downtown Clinton. This workshop is open to all ages.
