Clinton native Monica Potts has won an award from the Sidney Hillman Foundation for an article she wrote on poverty and enterprise in Kentucky’s Appalachia. Potts is a senior writer for the American Prospect.

Potts’ article, "Pressing on the Upward Way," tell the story of the Christian family as they struggle to get ahead.

Potts’ work has also appeared in the New York Times, the Connecticut Post and the Stamford Advocate. She has a blog at PostBourgie.

She is a graduate of Clinton High School.
