Van Buren County has been awarded federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program to supplement emergency food and shelter programs.

The county will receive $6,709.

The selection was made by a national board chartered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which consists of representatives of charitable and religious organizations.

The local board is made up of the county judge and treasurer, and local groups such as Ozark Opportunities, the Department of Health and the Department of Human Services. It will determine how funds are distributed in Van Buren County.

Public or private agencies interested in applying for the funds should contact the judge’s office at 745-2443 for an application. Deadline to apply is Oct. 30, 2013.
