The Van Buren County sheriff’s office will host a golf tournament at Fairfield Bay this weekend to help raise funds for its annual Shop with a Cop Christmas program.

As part of the program, law enforcement officers from the sheriff’s office, local police departments and State Police each take one child on a $200 shopping spree. The kids are given the option to ride in a squad car with lights and sirens as they travel to a local store.

Last year, according to Tim Adams, one of the organizers, 40 children were taken shopping.

It takes a lot of money to brighten Christmas for the kids, and the program organizers are busy year round with fundraising. The golf scramble will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at Mountain Ranch golf course, and a barbecue dinner will be available.

For more information about the tournament, call the golf course at 88403400 or Adams at the sheriff’s office, 745-2112.
