Your Clinton Yellow Jackets traveled to Marianna this past Friday night for their first conference game of the 2013 season.

The Jackets last two non-conference games against really good opponents seems to have served the purpose of getting them ready for conference play. The Marianna Trojans are always very athletic but could not handle the strength and speed of the Jackets.

Quarterback Fielder Dufrene led the offense with 7 completions for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns. Senior Robby Slack rushed for 30 yards and had 3 receptions for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mason Speer rushed for 35 yards and had one 25 yard catch for a touchdown.

The Mad Dog, Caden Hickman, ran the ball for 20 yards and also found the end zone for a touchdown. Sticky Fingers, Daniel Beavers, seems to always find a way to snatch the ball out of the air and find the end zone. Beavers hauled one in for another Clinton touchdown.

When it comes to punching it through the line for a touchdown it seems like the man to go to is senior Drew Farmer. Farmer’s strength and speed got him in the end zone from five yards out for a Jacket touchdown. Rounding out the offense for the Jackets was Stephen Sappington, Harrison Lester, David Hunt and Jackson Allen with a combined 73 yards rushing.

The defense was down and dirty with Hunter Blanton leading the charge 6 tackles for the Jackets. Slack and Nathan Teague held their own with 5 tackles each, with Teague also pulling down 1 interception.

Contributing with 4 tackles each were Farmer, Speer, Shawn Watts and Blake Ludwig. Alex Clark, Micah Passmore, Wyatt Fletcher and Sappington ended the game with 3 tackles each. Sappington came away with the only QB sack of the night.

The Jackets are 2-2 for the season and 1-0 in conference play after their 42-16 win over the Marianna Trojans.

Your Clinton Yellow Jackets will be back in action Friday, Oct. 4, when they will host South Side Batesville. Kickoff time will be 7 p.m. for this second conference game of the season. This will also be our Homecoming game, so let’s get out this Friday night and watch some great football.
