Zachary family reunion planned

A reunion of the descendants of George Washington and Mary Jane (Hasler) Zachary Jr. will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Jerusalem Community Building starting at 10 a.m. with a potluck meal served at noon.

George W. Zachary Jr.’s great-grandfather, Caleb Baldwin Zachary, and his family came to Arkansas from Tennessee about 1828 while it was still just a territory. The family worked in the coal mines of Johnson County and farmed on the land in Pope County. Several of the Zachary family members moved into Oklahoma and settled in California, but George W. Zachary Jr. settled in Conway County where he remained the rest of his life.

George W. Zachary Jr. was born Feb 22, 1884, in Pope County, Ark., to George W. Zachary Sr. and Mary Frances Fellers. He married Nettie Treadaway in 1906 and they were the parents of two children, Terry Elizabeth Hampton and William Carl Zachary. Nettie Treadaway Zachary died in 1912 and George married Mary Jane "Janie" Hasler in 1915. They were the parents of: Lois May Nicholson, William Virgil Zachary, Rose Mildred Chism, Mary Helen Anderson, Eugene Luther Zachary, Leo Zachary, Cleo Zachary, John Quitman Zachary and Jimmy Doyle Zachary.
