Van Buren County Quorum Court meets at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19 at the Van Buren County Annex building just off Hwy. 65 in Clinton. Meetings are the third Thursday of every month. The meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend.

SNYP Arkansas (Clinton’s animal shelter and spay/neuter clinic) and Fuzzy Hearts Animal Rescue present the first annual Dogtober Fest at Archey Fork Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. Providing animal control is not cheap, and they need community support. Bring your four-legged buddy in the most awesome costume you can design. There will be a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at the Clinton Fire Department to discuss the quarter of a cent sales tax that proposed for the fire department. Everyone is invited to hear and participate in the discussion. • • •


UACCM is offering a Microsoft Excel Intermediate class to be held 5 to 7 p.m. weekly on Thursday, beginning Thursday, Oct. 26, through Thursday, Dec. 14. The United Way Unhinged Haunted House will be held at the Van Buren County Fairgrounds on Hwy. 16 East, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, Saturday, Oct. 28, and Tuesday, Oct. 31. Co-sponsored by the Van Buren County Fairgrounds. Admission will be $3 per person ages five and older, free admission for those four and under. For younger participants they will be hosting an Un-Haunted House for children available in the Quonset Hut for children to play games while adults and others go through the Unhinged Haunted House. VBC Rescue Squad Haunted House will be 7-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 through Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the old Bee Branch Feed Store. Admission is $6 per person.

The Clinton Elementary School Gold Team will have their second annual Fall Festival from 2-5 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the high school football field. Everyone is invited to join in for a fun-filled day of costume contests, fun games planned, and food available in our concession stand. In preparation for this event they are having a few competitions amongst the elementary students, including a candy drive and a penny drive. Scare on the Square Halloween festival, will be from 5-10 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31, in historic downtown Clinton. It is free, and there will be trick-or-treating in a traffic-controlled environment. Roller McNutt Funeral Home will be hosting a Veterans Day Appreciation breakfast from 7;30 to 9;30 a.m., every Wednesday in November, beginning Nov. 1. They will provide a continental breakfast for our veterans.

The Van Buren County Community band along with the Clinton High School Band and Clinton High School and Junior High choruses will be performing a Veterans Concert at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in the Clinton High School Auditorium. The Peacemakers Quilt Guild with will be giving out two Quilts of Honor to two pre-selected veterans during the concert. With the current recognition of being a Purple Heart County, we would also like to recognize our Purple Heart veterans in attendance at the concert. Donations will be accepted at the door for the VBC Community Band.

We Love VBC is hosting an veterans tribute and potluck diner beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Clinton Schools cafeteria, followed by a lantern launch athe the football field in honor of our fallen heroes. Picking on the Square is an acoustic music jam from 9 a.m. until noon in Clinton on the historical downtown square under the big tree on the west side of the court house. This is an acoustic gathering so no mics or amps. Bringing a chair is recommended, come join our musical circle or just stop by and listen. Picking on the Square is second Saturday of each month.
