"But this I pray, that your love may grow more and more in knowledge and discernment, and that you may approve the things that are excellent ... ." — Philippians 1:9-10
Are you a perfectionist?
Or, do you know one?
If you are or do ... you are apt to find yourself being very uncomfortable.
The reason ... ?
Perfectionism is a negative force that makes the one demanding it, of himself or others, very critical. The reason for this is the constant emphasis upon what is preventing perfection.
The other side of that coin is the discernment of those things which are excellent, or a striving for excellence. This is a totally different and positive principle. The one who strives for excellence will leave himself and others feeling encouraged and joyful. This is done by affirming the good rather than pointing out what is wrong.
So, give up on the demands of perfection and search for excellence, and your life will change!
That's his way ... .
