Happy Independence Day, everyone! I have to say that Saturday’s Fourth of July Celebration at Alread this year was really special, bigger and better than ever before, and the community owes a great deal of gratitude to Waymon Bruce and his family for another breathtaking show this year. The heavy rain threatened, but wasn’t enough to deter the hundreds of people who came to enjoy the best fireworks show around. The Bruce family organized, paid for (with local contributions as well as expense from their own pockets), and orchestrated the fireworks show. The Alread Fire Department provided a bouncy house for the kids, hamburgers were donated via the community, and many brought dishes for the potluck—and the night rounded off with a lively and really fun performance from the band, Lucky Rooster. The Bruce family also gave away over a hundred neon glow necklaces and bracelets, which the kids loved. You know, in Arkansas, it really is all about community and all about the kids, and that especially rings true in Alread.
