Kicking off Fountain Lake School District’s seventh annual Very Special Pageant was none other than Steven Campbell, assistant middle school principal, who raised more than $5,000 for the school’s special Olympics in his memorable 50-mile run.
As master of ceremonies, Campbell introduced all contestants and their escorts, detailing the school’s accomplishments and dreams for the future.
Lisa Clanton, special education director, coordinated the event, spotlighting the beauty, and talents of area schools special education students. The FLSD theater was nearly filled for the occasion April 8.
The theme of this year’s pageant was “Somewhere over the Rainbow,” and music from the movie “The Wizard of Oz” was background accompaniment.
Contestants were categorized by age: Division 1, ages 5 to 12 and Division 2 ages 13-plus.
Division 1 contestants included Katrina Wiles, Nevaeh Lookadoo, McKenzie Stegall, Aaliyah Hodgson, Olivia Pilgrim, Sidney Bailey, Stephania Miranovic and Sarah Edwards.
Division 2 contestants were Amy Enlow, Cheyenne DePriest, Laiken Boyd, Mandy Miller, Sasha Pittman, Chyanne Huddleston, Brittany Fillers, Kori Wetherington, Skylar Faulkner, Elizabeth Welch, Elexies Wiles, Taylor Davis, Luz Garcia, Jenna McManigal, Sierra Crain and Alexis Cobb.
Escorts for the beauty and talent contestants were Cameron Windle, Garrett Fortenberry, Dakota Talley, Tyler Talley, Samuel Carter, Johnathan Friend, Diego Garcia, Tyler Campbell, Jace Norris, Linden Pilgrim, Naaman Webb, Anthony Keenom and James Spears.
Participants were recognized with crowns, banners, medals and trophies. Brian Harlow’s first place art was featured on T-shirts for the event.
