Shirley City Council met Monday night, May 9, in its regular session.

Water service was the big topic the council addressed that night, as it heard a presentation from Tim Shaw and Ron Littell from Community Water Systems to discuss options for improving Shirley water service. Shaw presented to the council of Community Water taking over the Shirley Waterworks and merging it with its own. At issue was the concerns, cited in previous meetings, regarding the Shirley water infrastructure, including the need to replace or repair several lines. After the presentation the matter was tabled until the June meeting.

The council agree to secure the storefront buildings the city had recently purchased, in order to make them safe for those in town for the June Homecoming celebration.

The Homecoming, June 2 and 3, was also in consideration. The Homecoming planning committee will be meeting each Thursday at 6 p.m. for updates and discussion. This year will be the 50th anniversary of the Homecoming.
