Governor Asa Hutchinson, AEDC Executive Director Mike Preston, AEDC Executive Vice President of Operations, Amy Fecher and Rural Services Director Alex Johnston presented $250,000 to five counties at an awards ceremony on May 25th, 2017 held at the Hot Springs Convention Center in Hot Springs, AR. The counties were selected for funding through the Arkansas Unpaved Roads Grant Program for fiscal year 2017.

In attendance were representatives receiving an Arkansas Unpaved Roads Grant award on behalf of Van Buren County. The county received $35,000 to install cross pipes to improve drainage and reduce erosion on Kirkendoll Road.

AEDC Rural Services works in partnership with the Arkansas Unpaved Roads Commission to administer the Arkansas Unpaved Roads Grant Program each year. Public entities that own and maintain public roads in Arkansas that are open to public vehicle travel are eligible to apply for grant funding. Counties are the primary applicants for the Arkansas Unpaved Roads Grant funding. Any County in Arkansas, regardless of population, that owns and maintains unpaved public roads is eligible to apply for the Arkansas Unpaved Roads Grant funding.
