Audra Stewart, PreK Directory at Clinton ABCSS (Arkansas Better Chance for School Success) announced recently the school has been approved to expand to 102 students in its preschool program, an increase of 10 students over the 2016 number.

“We are very excited for this opportunity to get more students ready for their education,” Stewart said.

ABCSS is funded by the Department of Human Services to provide free preschool opportunities for low-income families in Van Buren County. The slots available are assigned on a first-come basis.

The program is full-day, designed to both meet the needs of working families and provide, Stewart said, a safe, caring learning environment that supports children’s social, physical, emotional and intellectual growth. Four certified teachers and CDA -certified paraprofessionals work, within the program, to prepare students for kindergarten. ABCSS follows the Clinton School District calendar.

A new playground was added last year in support of the program.

Application packets are available at the Clinton Elementary School office or the Superintendent’s office. Applicants will need to provide income verification, a copy of the child’s birth certificate, social security card, immunization and a current physical/wellness check-up. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible, due ensure an applicant getting a slot.
