Work has begun for the new Casey’s convenience store to open on Highway 65 in Clinton.

The store was originally proposed as a 4,300 square foot building with 6 fuel pumps (12 fueling stations). It has since been expanded to a over 4,700 square foot store, Clinton Zoning head Phillip Ellis said. He was told this will be the largest Casey’s store built to date, Ellis said.

The store will offer made-from-scratch pizza, made-from-scratch donuts, made-to-order sub sandwiches, and a large coffee/fountain area. A store of this size usually employs around 20 to 25 people depending on sales volumes and hours of operation, a Casey’s representative stated.

Casey’s is headquartered in Ankeny, Iowa and operates over 1,950 stores in 14 Midwestern states. Nearly all Casey’s have kitchens that sell pizza, donuts, subs and a variety of other prepared food items. Casey’s is a small town, rural Midwest focused company.

“Approximately 57 percent of our stores are located in communities of 5,000 population or less,” the representative stated. The first Casey’s in Arkansas opened in April of 2011 and currently operates 34 stores in Arkansas, mostly in the northern half of the state.
