The HWY 254 & HWY 16 Yard Sale is coming up on Oct. 6 and 7, a Friday and a Saturday. Anyone from our community who would like to participate is welcome to do so at the Alread School parking lot.

The 4th Annual Alread Community Red Cross Blood Drive is the second Tuesday in October, on the 10th at the Alread EH Clubhouse from 3 to 7. Walk-ins are welcome, but it helps if you register ahead of time online at (enter the zip code 72031 and click on the Alread blood drive to register. Alternatively, you can call Burtie Harder (745-5278) and she’d be very happy to get you registered). This year’s blood drive is in honor of Sandy Watson (who will be having surgery). Sandy is a staple of the Alread Community and a wonderfully nice man who loves hunting, fishing, and his family.

The Alread Fall Festival will be on October 14, a Saturday, from 2 to 7 p.m. in the evening at the Alread F.U.N. Park. There will be food for everyone, several games and activities, including a spook house, a cake walk, face painting, food, bean bag toss, sack races, and much more. There is no admission fee, though a few things, mainly the cake walk and the spook house, will cost a little bit of money to help the organizations that are sponsoring the event.

Also that Saturday, the 14th, Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church is having its annual Hobo Dinner and Chili Cook-off. It starts at 4 and will last until about 9 p.m., with great food and fellowship, and music.

Alread is having its first Annual Trunk or Treat at the Alread F.U.N. Park and parking lot on Halloween this year. We’ll start at 6 p.m. and there will be a costume contest. Come park, bring your candy, and kids from the community can come and trick or treat all in one place in a safe and family-friendly environment. We are really looking forward to starting this tradition this year!

The Alread EH Club’s membership is down, and needs people who are willing to take an active role in the club and in the community. Men and women are both welcome. If you’re interested, please come to the monthly meetings, they’re held at the Alread EH Clubhouse on the second Thursday of every month at 1:30 p.m. The Alread EH Club’s exercise program, Get Fit, meets in the EH Club building every MWF from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Admission is free. A weekly quilting circle meets every Thursday from 9 to about 1 p.m. You may come to participate at any time during those four hours; you don’t have to be there the entire time.
