LITTLE ROCK - Mrs. Grace Alexander, 94, of Little Rock, passed on Saturday, November 4, 2017. She was born in Sherrill, Ark. on October 3, 1923 to Will Alexander and Rosie Hicks Alexander. She spent her early years in Grady but later moved to Detroit, Mich. where she attended Cass Technical High School and continued her education at Lewis Business College.
She had a successful career as an insurance underwriter with Great Lakes Life Insurance Company in Detroit and the Universal Life Branch Office in Little Rock, Ark. She had extensive biblical training and had served as Missionary of the Regular St. Marion Baptist District Association. For Many years, she served as an instructor for mission during the annual Congress of Christian Education. In 1991, with the encouragement of friends, she wrote a booklet “Biblical References to Understanding Home Missions” with the intent of giving others insight on the work and function of Home Missions.
Early in her life, Grace accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and united with Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. A devoted Christian and student of the word, she was a constant reader of the Bible. After returning to Arkansas, she settled in Pine Bluff and continued to be active in church work at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and New Direction Missionary Baptist Church until her health failed. In recent years, she reunited with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Grace Alexander was predeceased by her parents and her older brothers, Sherman Daniel and Taft Daniel.
She is survived by two sons, Leo C. McDonald and Dr. Joe L. Hargrove (Dr. Frances R. Harris), both of Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren, Deloris Nolen (Thomas) of Chicago, Ill., Phyllis Gillespie of Jensen Beach, Fla., Dwain Hargrove (Lynn) of Pine Bluff, Ark., Adrienne Thompson of Conway, Ark. and Joseph Hargrove of Little Rock, Ark. She is survived by twelve great grandchildren, Larnel Curry (Bobby Jean), Thomas Curry, Sr., Kimberly Lawson (Peree), Youlanda Douglas (Shaun), Steven Nolen, Joshua Hargrove, JoAnna Hargrove, Harry Gillespie, Jr., Mallory Gillespie, Adrienne Thompson, II, Rickey Thompson, Jr., Alyndria Mooney (Willie) and fourteen great-great grandchildren.She is also survived by other loving family members including cousins, Ovella Bankston, Ronnie Bankston, Rhonda Bankston, James (JC) Carvan; nephews, David Evans (Linda), Loyal Daniel; nieces, Patricia Williams (Rev. Alonzo), JoAnn Owens, Linda Owens, Barbara Abraham and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 11 a.m., at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Grady, Ark. Rev. Marshawn Wilbourn, Sr. will be officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff, Ark.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 5 - 7 p.m., at Brown Funeral Home in Pine Bluff. Her body will lie in-state Thursday, at 10:15 a.m., until services begin.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to The Lucy Johnson Scholarship Fund at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Dorothy Jean Wilson Griffin, 74, of Pine Bluff, received her wings to her journey into the glorious gates of Heaven on November 13, 2017, where many before awaited to welcome her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, JT Wilson and Ethel L. Wilkins Wilson Clements; brothers, Jimmy Doyle Wilson and Billy Ray Wilson; and her special sister, Clara Sue Thomas Gunter Holder.
Survivors include her loving husband of 58 years, James; her two children, Tammy Mattingly and James “Buddy” Griffin (Barbara); seven grandchildren, Jenna (Andy) Johnson, James R. “Bobby” Griffin, Brandon (Jessica) Bolls, Brittany McIver, Stephanie (Casey) Reed, Kayla (Dillon) Parrott, and Kristen Butcher; ten great-grandchildren, Jordan Johnson, Jadyn Johnson, Madyson Bolls, Aleigha Bolls, Kaylin Weiskoph, Kathryn Recanati, Laken Sweet, Trinity Reed, Letty Reed and Trace Parrott; and her brother, Jay Wilson.
She will be greatly missed by her many relatives and her friends in the legal field as well.
Dorothy was born on September 11, 1943. She attended Dollarway schools and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). She was a legal secretary/ paralegal for Baim Law Firm, Wright, Lindsey, Jennings, and Chadick Law Office. She was a member of Jefferson County Legal Support Professionals; AALS – the Association for Arkasnas Legal Support Professionals; and NALS – the National Association for Legal Support Professionals. She served in many capacities, including the State Association President for two years. She received the Legal Support Professional Award of Excellence in 1985. She was also a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff.
Her favorite things in life were crafting, spending time with her grandchildren and helping spread the gospel of Jesus.
A memorial service will be 5 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Pastor Barbara Douglass officiating. Visitation will follow the service until 8 p.m. at the church.

SHERIDAN - Michelle Leann Taylor Lunsford of Sheridan, Ark. was born November 6, 1967 in Pine Bluff, Ark., the daughter of Shelby and JoAnn Hawkins Taylor. She was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Sheridan, and worked for her family’s business, Shelby Taylor Trucking. She had also taught 5th grade at Sheridan Intermediate School for several years. Michelle was always on the go, either traveling and making memories with her family, or helping out her community. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and gave generously of her time and resources to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, through the Log A Load for Kids event. Her triplets said she liked to shop (a lot), ride any rollercoaster she could find, listen to good music, and hands down, her favorite food was birthday cake icing. Above all else, her heart was focused on her family. She cherished every moment she could spend with them. Her smile was as big as her personality, and she was loved by so many people, and touched countless lives.
Michelle died Sunday, November 12, 2017, at her home in Sheridan, just a few days after her 50th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband’s mother, Alice Faye Blackerby Lunsford.
Survivors are her husband and soulmate, David Lunsford; son, Jacob Lunsford; daughters, Jordan Lunsford and Jenna Lunsford; parents, Shelby and JoAnn Taylor; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Deana Taylor; all of Sheridan; brothers-in-law and wives, Robert and Charlotte Lunsford of Harrison, Ark., John and Mandy Lunsford of Sheridan; sister-in-law and husband, Kristi and Gregg Armstrong of Sheridan; nieces and nephews, Emily Newman, Grant Taylor, Ben Lunsford, Luke Lunsford, Logan Lunsford, Brooke Armstrong, Brittney Armstrong, Brady Armstrong. She is also survived by numerous other family members, and so very many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., Thursday, November 16, 2017, at New Life Fellowship in Sheridan (3482 Hwy. 270 East) with Bro. Steve Cypert and Bro. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Ain Cemetery, near Grapevine. Visitation is also Thursday, from 12 P.M. until service time at 2 P.M., also at the church.
Pallbearers are David Workman, Jeff Lisenbey, Wade Lunday, David Moring, Shannon Talbert and Jerry Atchley. Honorary pallbearers are Phil Shirron and Herbie Waymack.
