Backyard Antiques at corner of Hwy. 65 and Hwy. 9 in Choctaw has the large selection of antiques and everyday items you have grown to expect with a few new things that will enhance your shopping experience. With two buildings to browse, newly added square footage in the main building, and an outdoor selection, they are sure to have something for everyone.

This seemingly sleepy little building at the junction sat vacant for the past decade and a half, has been buzzing with activity for over a year. The 9,500 square foot building, originally known as the Watergate Building, has seen a lot in its days. From the best I can gather this building started off as a museum built in 1975 ran by Mrs. Britton and moved from its original location on Watergate Road at Bluffton. The building was laid out like a town with different interior rooms being made into different parts of town. The museum displayed local historical items to create recreations of a school house, bank, and general store with a number of others to complete this privately-owned museum. After the museum closed, the building had a short run as a Mexican restaurant, but probably is best known as the 659 Steakhouse and Club. Though this historical building has seen a number of different signs hanging on the front, it has kept a lot of the characteristics of the original museum and one should stop in and see the history that remains.

Backyard Antiques has added live music every third Saturday for those who want to come out and play or for the customer who enjoys local music while browsing the many selections and booths. Anyone is welcome to participate in the jam sessions. They invite acoustic or amplified instruments and encourage musicians far and wide to join them. While the organized sessions are on the third Saturday of the month musicians are welcome anytime to use their facilities.

Backyard Antiques is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. With a knowledgeable staff, new stock daily, and booth vendors that are like family, one should take time to enjoy this shopping experience.
