The Fort Smith Convention & Visitors Bureau has put out a call for nomination to its 2018 Giving Recognition In Tourism (GRIT) Awards on April 12.

Nominations can be submitted online at and by mail or hand-in at Miss Laura’s Visitors Center, 2 N. B St., in Fort Smith. The deadline for nominations is March 16. Finalists will be announced the first week of April, and the winners will be revealed during the 2018 GRIT Awards ceremony.

The GRIT Awards presentation will be 5:30 p.m. April 12 in Hall C of the Fort Smith Convention Center, 800 Rogers Ave.

The event celebrates the contributions and accomplishments of businesses, organizations and individuals who have “gone above and beyond the call of duty to promote Fort Smith as a travel destination, preserve the area's rich history, and/or enhance the city's tourism appeal in an impactful way,” the CVB states in a news release.

The Fort Smith CVB seeks nominations from the public and those involved in the region's growing tourism and hospitality industry. Nominations can be made in the following awards categories:

● Business Partner of the Year.

● Attraction Partner of the Year.

● Lodging Partner of the Year.

● Restaurant Partner of the Year.

● Polly Crews Hospitality Person of the Year.

During the awards ceremony, Fort Smith CVB will also showcase the past year’s Hometown Hospitality Heroes who have been highlighted in the Experiencing Fort Smith blog.
