A Town Hall meeting this coming Tuesday will give Van Buren County a chance to see the health of its citizens and what that means for the county.
The Van Buren County Wellness Committee is hosting an Healthy Active Arkansas Town Hall Meeting 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Clinton High School Cafeteria. Former Surgeon General under Arkansas governors Beebe and Huckabee, and current President and Chief Executive Officer of Arkansas Center for Health Improvement, Dr. Joseph Thompson, will share information on the Healthy Active Arkansas plan. Healthy Active Arkansas is a framework for encouraging and enabling healthier lifestyles in Arkansas endorsed by Governor Hutchinson.
“We are number 16 in quality of life and number 51 in health rankings in Van Buren County,” County Judge Roger Hooper said, “we need to improve that in order to - among other reasons - attract business to our community.”
Thompson’s presentation will include Van Buren County as well as Arkansas ranking.
Mary Eakin, Arkansas Department of Health, will share information on the 2018 County Health Rankings at the town hall meeting. The County Health Rankings gives data on Van Buren County, such as length of life and quality of life. This data will show what Van Buren County is doing well and where it may need to work on improvements.
The Van Buren County Wellness Committee will host a panel of Van Buren County health experts to share information and answer questions on health issues. Van Buren County residents are encouraged to attend.
The Van Buren Wellness Committee has several projects underway with a focus on improving the health of Van Buren County residents. Community members and organization are encouraged to join them.
