Picking on the Square is 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 8. Join other local residents for an acoustic music jam in Clinton on the historical downtown square under the big tree on the west side of the court house (during inclement weather session will be held in the Van Buren County Democrat Office). This is an acoustic gathering so no mics or amps. Bringing a chair is recommended, come join our musical circle or just stop by and listen. Picking on the Square takes place the second Saturday of each month.

Previously known as the Clinton Buddy Walk, the Clinton Down Syndrome Walk will be a fun day celebrating all individuals with Down Syndrome.

Monarch Butterfly Migration study and assistance to scientists will take place Saturday, Sept. 15, 10 a.m. at the South Fork Nature Center, 962 Bachelor Road, Clinton. The event is for tagging adult Monarchs and releasing them. Most participants will be able to select a butterfly, hold it while it is being tagged, and then release it to nature. If a tagged butterfly survives its trip to Mexico and is found, scientists will be able to add the information about that butterfly to their database. The Van Buren County Fair runs Sept. 17-22, with the carnival opening Wednesday, Sept. 17. Pageant forms available at Sew What Sewing. There will be a $100 drawing to be given away each night throughout the fair.

There will be a couple of bands performing during the week, along with Rapid Fire Ministries. The Youth Talent Show will be Saturday, Sept. 22. There will also be a dog show and livestock judging.

Delta Companies, Inc. is holding its Legislative Day / Open House 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at its Clinton facility. Delta Companies Inc. is a site development and highway contractor specializing in asphalt paving and road construction materials. The event will begin in the facility shop with a short presentation about our company and the many benefits of a strong transportation system and strong transportation industry. A facility tour will follow, as long or short as desired with lunch at noon. Invited are State and Federal legislators, local public officials, and other interested parties. Our facilities will be working, so certain safety precautions are necessary, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and site hazard training, which will be provided.

The Lawton Area Fun Flyers Society (LAFFS) will hold its annual fly-in Friday, Sept. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 22 at the flying field located at 124 Briarwood Road, just off the New Road, in Shirley. The fly-in will feature all types of replica and acrobatic radio-controlled model aircraft. Saturday will be the big day with planes in the air most of the day, along with raffles and food.

The Stand with a Cop silent/live auction will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Clinton High School cafeteria. Funds raised from this event will be designated for the Van Buren County Sheriff’s office to purchase the necessary equipment needed for a Special Response Team (SRT) for the county. No donation is too small or too large. All donations must be new or handmade.
