Wanda and Paul Poynor visited Brad and Carol Freeman and children Shawnee and Dakota of Russellville and Paul J. Poynor of Atkins during the Easter weekend.

Virginia Maddox, who turned 102 years old on April 7, will be celebrating her birthday on Thursday at the Shirley Senior Center.

David Delk received a liver transplant on March 17 and got to come home from the hospital last week. They had an Easter celebration at their home on Sunday with about 20 people present. The new liver is working and they are so thankful for everyone’s prayers.

Toby and Robin Ward recently went on a vacation to Gulf Shores, Ala.

Visiting Bro. Sam and Brenda Brown over the weekend were their son and daughter-in-law David and Rae Lynn Brown of Hector.

Full Gospel Tabernacle Church had around 30 at their sunrise service.

Shady Grove Baptist Church had around 57 at their morning service on Easter Sunday.

The Shirley Centennial Museum will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. It will also be open all day on Saturday, June 1, during the Shirley Homecoming.

Geneva Treece Meyner, who lived many years around Shirley and now lives on Culpepper Mountain, celebrated her 84th birthday on April 4. She is the aunt of Thelma Murray and many others in this county.


A star is born! Lillyanne Star Shuffield was born on April 1 to Brandon and Jennifer Shuffield, and she is the granddaughter of Shawn Shuffield of the Dennard Volunteer Fire Department. Sweet little Lillyanne was no April Fools joke and weighed in at 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 19 inches long.

hirty-two of the 51 Ozark Health Medical Center volunteers showed their respects at the funeral of William Dobbins this last week. South Side Baptist church hosted a delicious and abundant reception for the family. Visiting family members were impressed and humbled by the outpouring of care and concern from the people in the community as they said their good-byes to their loved one. Bill lost his battle with cancer but only after many years of outstanding and loyal service not only to his country in the Air Force for 10 years but to his community. Volunteers like Bill are truly the unsung heroes of our community. You are already missed Bill.

The Dennard Fire Department will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16.
