A Clinton teacher was killed in an accident last weekend in Searcy County.

Richard Daye, 64, was apparently hunting artifacts Saturday when a ledge in western Searcy County collapsed on top of him, according to reports.

Daye was the music teacher at Clinton Elementary and Intermediate. He taught at Alread school before the schools consolidated and had been at Clinton ever since. Daye organized the annual Christmas program for the school.

Teachers and friends took to Facebook after Daye’s death to remember him as a pleasant, good-hearted man who kept a smile on his face. He was remembered as a unique individual who was always whistling and waving to people.

His hobbies included archaeology and collecting arrowheads. Daye was a member and the organist for St. Jude Catholic Church in Clinton. He was a graduate of Arkansas Tech University.

A memorial service for Daye is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Mountain Home.
