The last Saturday of April, Bee Branch Fire Department held a Spring Fest at its station on Highway 65. A lot was going on, with vendors nearby, games and rides for the kids, and a auction, there for a fund raising.
Chief Jess Burris said the auction was a success, with the highest pie going for $200, the total raised being $6,175 (and miss the rain). Burris, a few days later, was at the Southside student assembly presenting scholarship awards of $500 to students from the money raised at the event.
This was a first-time event, but Burris anticipates this becoming an annual thing for the Bee Branch community.
“Our number one priority is to protect life and property, but as volunteers we are a little bit of everything and try to help the community in every way possible, Burris said.
Students awarded were Beau Pennington, MaKenzie Mosley, Sydni Clark, Madison Thorn, and Miranda Lamb.
