Sunday, a tree was planted at the library. Not an ordinary tree, it was planted in commemoration of World War I veterans and included dirt from a World War I battlefield, shown here being placed.
The tree itself was provided by the Arkansas Forestry Commission. Justice John Bradford (center, rear) was instrumental in bringing this to the county, by working with the American Heritage Foundation and the forestry commission.
Trail Life troop 401, Burnt Ridge Baptist Church, officiated the ceremony, which included a reading of the famous In Flanders Field poem, as well as selections from letters written home by Van Buren County soldiers participating in the war.
All who wished were given a chance to help plant the tree.
