OKLAHOMA CITY — State Rep. John Bennett, R-Sallisaw, says he will not seek re-election for House District 2, according to a news release.

Bennett was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011. He currently serves as the chairman of the House Appropriations & Budget Public Safety Subcommittee and as a member of the Appropriations & Budget, Joint Committee on Appropriations & Budget, Veterans and Military Affairs and Wildlife committees. He also served on the House Special Investigation Committee, which investigated reports of wrongdoing at several state agencies, the release states.

“I have been called to a life of service," Bennett says in the news release. "In that service, I have learned many things, grown at many levels, and it has required great personal sacrifice to me and my family. I have given 21 years of my life as a United States Marine, and I have had the pleasure and honor to serve with so many great Americans who have answered that same call.

"I have been honored to serve as the representative of the people of House District 2, for four terms. I felt I was called to serve and that is what I have done. I have fought for my constituents, and now it is time I fight for my family and give them the time they deserve."
