Avoiding a cat in the road led to an accident for a Shirley man, according to a Clinton Police Department report filed May 14.

In the report the driver, the only person in the vehicle, a 2006 GMC pickup, was driving on Poplar Street at about 6 a.m. when a cat ran out in front of the it. The man swerved to avoid the cat, which led to the pickup going off the road.

When the pickup left the road, the report stated, it hit a plastic culvert, as well as the concrete tilings at the culvert’s edge. The tilings were “destroyed,” per the report, and the pickup, damaged on its front and right side, had to be towed.

No injury was reported. The report did not indicate the status of the cat.
