A second suspect in a Fort Smith double homicide investigation was captured on Monday, according to a news release from the Fort Smith Police Department.

Members of the U.S. Marshal's Service, along with members of the Memphis Police Department, located and captured Marcus Collins, 29, on Monday, the post states. Collins was taken to a local detention center in Memphis, where he is awaiting extradition.

On July 26, at 3:55 a.m., officers of the Fort Smith Police Department were called to the apartment complex at 4118 N. 50th St. in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they entered the apartment and found Brionna S. Belcher, 26, and Jonathan Harris, 43, on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Fort Smith Police Department detectives were immediately called to the scene. After an extensive investigation, arrest warrants were issued for Collins and Neirod Medlock, 19, for two counts of first-degree murder, one count of residential aggravated burglary and two counts of kidnapping. All charges are class Y felonies. Bond was set at $500,000 cash. Warrants were served on Medlock at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center, where he was being held on probable cause on two counts of kidnapping. He was arrested Aug. 7 on a petition to revoke a bond warrant.

Investigators believe the slayings were the result of a robbery that escalated.
